““Before I came to Canada, I lived in Miami for 3 years. I was an illegal immigrant at that time, facing possible deportation from the USA. I had to figure out what my next move was going to be, I was 24 years old at the time. I had two options, one, go back to Haiti or come to Canada for a fresh start. Canada seemed like the best option for me. When I arrived in Toronto, I did not know anyone. I found this shelter, Horizons for Youth, they literally saved my life. They clothed me, provided me with a place to sleep, I had a roof over my head and 3 meals a day, mentored me, until I was able to get on my feet. If it wasn’t for the generous, kind, open hearted staff, volunteers, and donors, I would not be the man I am today” ”
